Manali to Tirthan Valley Route
The route goes down the Kullu valley along the Beas river. From Manali you drive to Kullu and Bhuntar, then to Aut. At Aut you take the tunnel towards Banjar. From Banjar, Tirthan Valley (Gushaini) is about 10 km on one side and Jibhi is about 9 km on the other side.
- Manali to Kullu
- Kullu to Bhuntar and Aut
- Aut tunnel to Banjar
- Banjar to Gushaini or Jibhi
The road is good up to Aut. After Banjar it becomes narrow, so a local hill driver makes the journey much easier.
Getting from Manali to Tirthan: Cab or Bus
A private cab is the easiest way. It takes about 3 to 3.5 hours and you can stop at the Kullu shawl shops, the Pandoh dam viewpoint or the river on the way. Local buses run from Kullu to Banjar, but they are slow and you still need a taxi from Banjar to your stay.
Tirthan or Jibhi: Which One to Choose
Both are quiet and green, and they are only about 30 minutes apart, so most of our guests see both.
- Tirthan Valley: river side stays and the Great Himalayan National Park
- Jibhi: wooden homestays, the Jibhi waterfall and pine forests
- Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake: a short drive from Jibhi
- Chehni Kothi and Shangarh meadow: easy day trips
Tirthan Valley Weather and Season
March to June and September to November are the best months, with pleasant days and clear roads. Monsoon (July and August) brings landslide risk on the Aut to Banjar road. In winter, Jalori Pass usually closes after heavy snowfall, so the Shimla to Jibhi route via Jalori may not be open from about December to March.
