Shimla and Manali together is the classic Himachal trip: colonial Shimla and the snow at Kufri, then the drive along the Beas through Kullu to Manali, Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel. It suits families, couples and first-time visitors to the mountains.

We run our own hotels on this route, Snow Castle in Kufri and Vipasha Resort in Manali, which keeps rooms available in peak weeks and prices honest. Every package includes the hotel, a private cab or Volvo, breakfast and dinner, sightseeing and pickup from Delhi or Chandigarh.
December to February for snow, March to June for the summer holidays and pleasant weather, and September to November for clear views and fewer crowds. In July and August we keep spare time in the plan for monsoon roads.
The trip starts from Delhi or Chandigarh. Delhi to Shimla is about 350 km, Shimla to Manali about 250 km (7 to 8 hours through Mandi and Kullu), and Manali back to Delhi about 540 km. Volvo packages use overnight buses for the long legs to save a hotel night and a day.
Good to know: Five nights is the comfortable length: two in Shimla and three in Manali. With four nights the route still works but the Shimla to Manali day is long.

Five nights and six days is ideal. Four nights works if you are short on leave, and six or seven nights lets you add Kasol or Dharamshala.
A private cab is more comfortable for families and older travellers and lets you stop on the way. Volvo packages cost less and save time on the long night legs.
Rohtang needs a separate daily permit and closes in winter. Most plans use the Atal Tunnel and Sissu instead, which are open most of the year.
Prices start at the amount shown above per person on double sharing and depend on the season, hotel category and number of nights.
