About Jaisalmer trips

Best time to visit Jaisalmer

October to March is the season, when days are warm and desert nights are cool. December and January nights can drop close to freezing at the camps. April to June is too hot for the desert.

How to reach Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer is about 285 km from Jodhpur (5 hours) and is connected by trains from Delhi and Jaipur. Jodhpur has an airport with daily flights. Jaisalmer airport has a few seasonal flights.

Places to see in Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer Fort: Sonar Qila, a living fort of yellow sandstone with Jain temples inside.
Patwon ki Haveli: Five connected havelis with some of the finest stone carving in Rajasthan.
Sam sand dunes: Camel or jeep safari at sunset, then a night in a desert camp.
Gadisar Lake: A quiet lake with ghats and small temples, best in the morning.
Mehrangarh Fort, Jodhpur: One of India's biggest forts, high above the blue houses.
Kuldhara: An abandoned village near Jaisalmer with stories of a vanished community.

Good to know: Pack warm layers even in March or October. Desert nights are much colder than the days.

How many days are needed for Jaisalmer?

Two nights, one in the city and one in a desert camp, is the usual plan. With Jodhpur, plan four nights.

Is the desert camp safe and comfortable?

Yes. The desert night is in a Swiss tent at an established camp, with dinner included.

Camel safari or jeep safari?

Camel safari is slower and classic, jeep safari covers more dunes quickly. Both can be added at the camp.

Can I combine Jaisalmer with Udaipur?
