A Shimla Manali trip is the most popular holiday in Himachal, and the first question almost everyone asks is how much it will cost. The honest answer depends on four things: how many nights you travel, the season, the hotel category and whether you go by private cab or overnight Volvo bus. This guide breaks the cost down in plain numbers so you can plan a budget before you book.
All prices below are per person on double sharing and are based on our own Shimla Manali packages at the time of writing (October 2026). They include the hotel, breakfast and dinner, and transport for the trip. Flights or trains to Delhi or Chandigarh are not included.

How the Season Changes the Cost
Hotel rates in Shimla and Manali move a lot with the season. The highest prices are in the Christmas and New Year week, the Diwali holidays and the May–June summer rush, when rooms sell out early. January (after New Year), February, March, September and early October are usually the best value months. July and August are cheaper too, but monsoon rain can slow the roads.
If you want snow, plan for late December to February. If you want the best price with pleasant weather, March or late September are good choices.
Private Cab or Volvo: Which Is Better for Your Budget
A Volvo package costs less because the long legs, Delhi to Shimla and Manali to Delhi, are done on overnight buses. You save a hotel night and a day of driving. It suits couples, friends and young travellers.
A private cab costs more but is far more comfortable for families, older parents and small children. You can stop for food and photos, and the same driver stays with you for the whole trip.
How Many Days Do You Need
Five nights is the comfortable length: two nights in Shimla and three in Manali, with a full day for Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel. Four nights works if you are short on leave, but the Shimla to Manali day is long. With six or seven nights you can add Kasol, Jibhi or Dharamshala.

How to Save Money on a Shimla Manali Trip
Book four to six weeks ahead for Christmas, New Year and summer holidays. Travel midweek if you can, since weekend rates are higher. Choose a Volvo package if comfort is not the main concern. Extra Costs to Keep Aside
Keep some money for local rides and activities. Snow-point vehicles from Manali to Solang or the Atal Tunnel side are paid locally, and so are paragliding, rafting, the Kufri pony rides and entry tickets. We share the current rates before you book so there are no surprises.
